When Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on consoles later this month, the game will put a significant emphasis on hunting and gathering. Players will be able to hunt, catch, kill, and skin creatures before selling the loot or bringing it back to camp to feed the other gang members and bring the morale up. That's not all though, as the gameplay mechanic also has a collectible element to it.

Alongside the latest Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay trailer, publications have also been publishing their hands-on previews from their time demoing the game. One of these, published by the PlayStation Blog, confirms that the game will feature "legendary" animals.

These legendary creatures are described as "unique beasts of each species" which will be found around the game's world. Once the legendary animal has been killed, players will be able to take the salvaged parts to a trapper who will then turn these parts into "unique pieces" of clothing for Red Dead Redemption 2's protagonist Arthur Morgan.

While that sounds exciting and players could potentially deck themselves out in some very fancy gear, it's worth noting that Red Dead Redemption 2's map is the largest Rockstar has ever created. There are also 200 species of animal in the game. As such, finding all of these legendaries and collecting all of these unique clothing items may be like finding the world's tiniest needle in the world's largest haystack.

Although collecting these legendary pieces may seem like an insurmountable task, it just further highlights how much Rockstar has included in the game. It wasn't enough to make the world massive, showing off different weather conditions and terrains, but the developer also appears to have filled it with things to do. This includes bank heists to campfire hangouts with the rest of the van der Linde gang, as well as opportunities to gamble, intimidate and rob NPCs at gunpoint, and even steal other people's hats.

And this isn't even including Red Dead Online, the Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer mode. Rockstar has yet to confirm exactly what game modes players can expect the online multiplayer to have but it has confirmed that it plans to release DLC updates, as it did with GTA Online. What this means is that whether in story mode or multiplayer, it sounds as though the game will offer players tons to choose from.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to launch on October 26, 2018, for the PS4, and Xbox One and the Red Dead Online beta goes live in November 2018.
